Biography

I have two main research areas that includes tropical and temperate fieldwork in the Indo-Pacific (Indonesia; Wakatobi Marine National Park), Central Pacific (Palmyra Atoll), Eastern Pacific (Hawaii), New Zealand, UK, and the South Pacific. Marine Protected Area (MPA) Ecology and marine conservation I am interested in the design, function and management of MPAs in temperate and tropical regions. Much of this work is conducted in collaboration with Dr Jonathan Gardner (SBS). Sponge ecology and biodiversity I research sponge ecology and biodiversity at individual, population and assemblage levels. Sponges are important in hard substratum environments hence my direct interest, although I have also used them as a model group to investigate ecological theory and processes.
