Formed Bark Paper

Formed Bark Paper

This technology is a method for incorporating bark into formed paper products that are traditionally made exclusively from wood fibre. Ground bark and a couple of additives are included with a normal wood fibre suspension. The resulting mix is then formed into the desired shape using a preformed mould (e.g. egg carton shaped). This wet material containing the bark etc is then hot pressed in the sieve to drive off the moisture and facilitate cross linking giving the final product.

Scion is looking for a commercial partner capable of taking the technology through to market. They are flexible about what form the commercial arrangement could take.

Unique Selling Propositions
  • Allows for the use of low value bark in the production of formed paper
  • Can be used in existing manufacturing processes
  • Final product has enhanced moisture resistance
  • Can be used for any applications where formed paper products are used, (i.e., egg cartons, horticulture trays) would be particularly good for products where moisture resistance was useful.
