Low energy thermomechanical pulp

Refining of wood as an initial stage of the pulp and paper process requires a lot of energy. It involves the 'grinding' of the material between large plates which reduce the material to a usable state. This new technology is a modification of the process whereby selective refining occurs, delivering a better product in a more energy efficient fashion.


Scion is looking for commercial partners to implement the technology.

  • Significantly reduces energy consumption at an early stage in the process.
  • Applicable in thermo-mechanical pulp plants but would need to be installed at the build phase as too expensive to retro fit to existing plant.
